What's your favorite Jake Gyllenhaal flick?  Take a look at our list for some inspiration.

Check out our list after the jump!

10.Brothers(2009)

Brothers Theatrical Poster

Our Jake stars as the less noble of two brothers in this war-thriller, co-starring Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire. Sam Cahill (Maguire) sets off for war in early 2007, while Tommy Cahill (Gyllenhaal) stays behind.  Tommy is the black sheep of the family, causing trouble and creating mischief.  When Sam is missing and presumed dead, his wife Grace and their two children must deal with the grief.  Tommy steps up to help in their time of need, but then Sam comes back with major PTSD, it threatens the relationship between these two brothers.   The film received mostly positive reviews, with a 61 percent fresh on Rotten Tomato.  Gyllenhaal was nominated, along with his co-stars, for a Saturn Award.

9.Zodiac(2007)

Zodiac Poster

Zodiactells the true story of the notorious serial killer, known as the"Zodiac", who terrorized the San Francisco Bay Area in the late '60s and early '70s.  Gyllenhaal stars as Robert Graysmith, a cartoonist from the San Francisco Chronicle, who can't let go of the case, even after others have let it be.  The lead reporter on the case (Robert Downey Jr.) has long given up, but Graysmith continues to investigate.  Gyllenhaal did a lot to prepare for this role. He met with the real Graysmith and videotaped him, so he could study his mannerism and behavior.

8.Love and Other Drugs(2010)

Love and Other Drugs Poster

In his most recent film to date, Gyllenhaal stars as Jamie Randall, a pharmaceutical salesman who falls in love with Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway), a woman who suffers from early onset Parkinson's disease. This is the second time Gyllenhaal and Hathaway have starred together in a film -- the first one was Brokeback Mountain (also on this list).  Although the end of the film is cliche a bit too sappy for the rest of the film, the beginning and middle make up for it.  The two have undeniable chemistry and it helps that Gyllenhaal is naked for a lot of the film - he doesn't disappoint!

7.Rendition(2007)

Rendition Photo

Renditionexplores the controversial CIA practice of extraordinary rendition, where countries move suspects from one country to another where torture is allowed in order to interrogate them.  Jake stars as Agent Freeman, a new agent who is assigned the task of observing the interrogation of chemical engineer Anwar El-Ibrahimi for his involvement with a known terrorist.  Freeman believes he is innocent, but his boss (Meryl Streep) insists they continue to keep him prisoner and torture him to ensure the safety of other victims of terrorism.  Gyllenhaal plays the role of a starry-eyed agent jaded by his involvement in the case with precision and just the right amount of emotion.

6.Jarhead(2005)

Jarhead Poster

Based on the real-life story of Marine Anthony Swofford and adapted from his best-sellling 2003 book,Jarheadfollows his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.  Gyllenhaal stars as the protagonist who endures some pain and suffering upon entering the marines, including nasty pranks at the hands of the senior Marines.  After arduous training sessions, he becomes a sniper and is paired with Troy, who becomes Swofford's spotter. The film takes on a real-life look at life in the Marines, highlighting the boredom and sense of isolation the men felt, as opposed to glorifying the fighting.

5.The Day After Tomorrow(2004)

The Day After Tomorrow Poster

The Day After Tomorrowis a science-fiction film that looks at the effects of global warning in a series of extreme weather happenings that leads to global cooling and ultimately a new ice age. Gyllenhaal stars as Sam Hall, the son of Jake Hall (Dennis Quaid), a paleoclimatologist who goes on an expedition to Antarctica to find out global warming is a very near global threat.  Sam is in New York City when the series of natural disasters hits and he must keep everyone alive with the little knowledge he has from his father.

4.Donnie Darko(2001)

Donnie Darko Poster

This film cemented Gyllenhaal's role as a leading man in Hollywood.  He stars as a trouble teen who sees vision of a doomsday-prophesizing rabbit, who manipulates him into committing a series of crimes.  He is also plagued with sleepwalking, family drama, and trippy dreams.  Gyllenhaal does an amazing job in this one and it might still be one of his best performances.

3.Moonlight Mile(2002)

Moonlight Mile Poster

This film isn't as well-known as some of the other Gyllenhaal blockbusters, but it an incredible drama about rebuilding after a death and the effects someone's death has on the people around them. Gyllenhaal plays Joe Nast, a man whose fiance, Diana Floss is murdered in a restaurant robbery.  He decides to stay with her grieving parents (Susan Sarandon and Dustin Hoffman)He falls in love with Bertie Knox, which ends up causing him trouble with his deceased finance's parents.  Matters are further complicated since Joe is a realtor in business with Ben Floss, Diana's father.

2.October Sky(1999)

October Sky Poster

Before Gyllenhaal made it big, he co-starred in the very popular filmOctober Sky. Gyllenhaal stars as Homer Hickam, a coal miners son, who studies rocketry against his father's wishes.  He ends up becoming a NASA scientist.  The film is based on the book written by Hickam.  The film was critically acclaimed and has a 93 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  Gyllenhaal proved his acting chops in this film and he does a great job as a young man destined for greatness.

1.Brokeback Mountain(2005)

Brokeback Mountain Photo

Talk about performances of a lifetime -- this could be it for Jake Gyllenhaal.  Playing opposite Heath Ledger as a married, but gay cowboy, who begins a love affair while  The two men fall in love on a mountain in Wyoming in 1963.  The film looks at the next 20 years of the pair trying to hide their relationship, but also trying to spend time together.  The forbidden love between these two cowboys broke through many boundaries in Hollywood and director Ang Lee won an Academy Award for Best Director for the film.  Both Heath Ledger and Gyllenhaal did an amazing job in their roles, both with their outward relationship and inward turmoil.  Indisputably Gyllenhaal's best performance to date.

Fraggle Rock Movie Has No Apparent Future

Development on a film version of Jim Henson's popular seriesFraggle Rockseems to be in limbo.  Director Cory Edwards offered an update to fans wondering about the movie on his website.

Many, many, many of you have repeatedly asked for some kind of update on the Fraggle Rock movie. The truth is, I got nothin’,"the director admitted."There’s nothing to report except that The Weinstein Company has everything they need to move forward, and the ball is in their court."

Fraggle Rock Picture

There have been some issues with writers and the script as Edwards alludes to in his message.

He went on to say,"They’ve talked about getting a new writer, which I’m willing to do. They’ve talked about starting over from scratch, which I’m willing to do. But I have not heard a peep from their camp in almost a year."

Sounds like Edwards is anxious to move the film forward as well.  With the director pushing, maybe there's still hope for a feature length film of the puppets from Fraggle Rock.

Katherine Heigl Comedy One For The Money Pushed Back Again

Lionsgate has change the release date of Katherine Heigl's comedy thrillerOne for the Moneyfrom its summer date...again.

The movie, based on the popular series by Janet Evanovich, revolves around Stephanie Plum, a newly divorced and unemployed woman who starts working at her cousin's bail-bond business.

American Actress Katherine Heigl

The film was originally supposed to be released on July 8, but that date was changed to June 3 to keep it from competing withThe ZookeeperandHorrible Bosses, which are also comedies.

Now, it has been pulled from its June 3 release date as well so as not to compete with the very popularX-Men: First Class.

A Lionsgate rep told EW, it's just a matter of finding the right date and it hasn't been permanently been shelved.

“We just want to find the right home for it and that {date} didn’t feel like it.”

It seems the studio doesn't think the film is strong enough to compete with other movies at the box office.

EXCLUSIVE: An Interview With Win Win's Amy Ryan

Amy Ryan has played such a wide range of roles in her long career.  She played a drugged out mother inGone Baby Gone,a psychiatrist onIn Treatment, and a human resources representation onThe Office.

Now she's playing a doting wife and mother in theWin Winopposite Paul Giamatti.  The film follows a family who takes in a runaway teen who shows up at their door and they take him in.  It's about the relationship between Mike Flaherty, moonlighting as awrestlingcoach and a young athlete.

Ryan talks about what a pleasure this film was to do and working specifically with Alex Shaffer, who is appearing in his first film.

Check out the rest of the interview below.

Amy Ryan as Jackie Flaherty in Win Win

Tell me about your character in Win Win:

I play Jackie Flaherty, the mother of the household, the wife to Paul Giamatti, a New Jersey surbanan couple who are deeply, happily married, but have a bunch of economic strains as many people do these days. One day, a runaway teen shows up at their door and they decide to take him in, but they are a little in conflict over whether that’s a good idea or not.

In the film, you play a very strong woman, she’s a strong force. What attracted you to this role particularly?  Do you like playing strong characters or characters with a lot of flaws?

I like shifting it up as much as possible. But it’s very exciting playing strong women and especially a strong mother and wife. I find in a lot of film, the parts can be marginalized and really just act as a sounding board more for the man’s problems, but Tom McCarthy can definitely get around that in any of the characters and I knew that going in, so that was a big attraction. And also just a good opportunity to play a really good mom, which I haven’t had experience with on film or TV, it was a fun challenge. I like that she’s the moral compass of the film, that was a nice thing to play as well.

What was it like working with director Thomas McCarthy?

Before we started filming, Tom– he writes with actors in mind, most of the time, so before we started filming, he had offered me the part, so there were a lot of e-mails and meeting for coffee in the neighborhood, where he would really ask for my input. He would show me stuff he had written and working on for his character Jackie. He would say, do you buy this or do you think this is the direction we should be going? There were a bunch of different versions. He’s very open-minded. He’s talented, he’s very creative and it helps that he’s such a good actor. But he’s done such an extraordinary thing in that he’s represented this family in New Jersey without making fun of them. I think New Jersey and suburbia are often punchlines to jokes and he doesn’t do that with this world he’s evolved and he manages to make a really humorous film and very touching film without leaning on sentimentality. And the humor is never pounded on and it’s there and it’s so genuine, so it takes a lot of guts to allow that to happen. Just kind of go for the results of it, and he has a lot of patience and confidence.

What was it like working with Alex {Shaffer}? Did you give him any acting tips since it was his first film?

Tom was amazing with him, he was just so clear. To direct someone who has never acted before, but even more so had never even thought of acting before. Alex got wind of an audition, his friend told him to go on it, he did, next thing you know he’s in the film. So I don’t think he had any time to fantasize about what it would be like to be an actor. He is such a good student and I think it’s his commitment and his drive that makes him such a good athlete. Right before we started filming, he won the New Jersey state championship in wrestling, so he definitely knows how to focus, so I think he took that same approach as he does to wrestling. I was deeply impressed by him.

How do you get ready for a role? You play such diverse character, especially your role in Gone Baby Gone, which was very different than this role. Do you research?

It depends on the role and what’s expected of me, but sometimes I reply heavily on script and story and the situation that the character is in. And sometimes I rely heavily on costume and what the character looks like and sometimes that can bring me in– that’s definitely what worked for Gone Baby Gone. In the case of Win Win, just getting the accent, that’s kind of a familiar sound to me being in New York. New Jersey has a bit of a different sound, but it’s always in ear shot when you’re in Manhattan, so I wouldn’t say there was as much preparation needed as say learning that Boston accent. When we started this film, I had recently become a mother myself, so I kind of has a whole new understanding of what it is to be exhausted and just kind of have that maternal instinct that spreads. I found myself very protective of all the kids on the set and that’s something I wouldn’t have had as forceful an idea of before I became a mother myself.

What is the biggest difference between working in movies and working in television. What are the different demands within each?

Well, for example, I just finished up work on In Treatment, it’s time, time spent on a scene. On a film, if you shot 6-8 pages on one day, that would be considered an extraordinary day, that would be a packed, heavy day. And in the case of In Treatment, we shot 12 pages a day. I would say it comes down to time where you would shoot a whole episode in five days. A film will take two months to do, if I’m lucky. There’s just more time to find nuance and kind of drop into that world. Sometimes it’s much more complicated because there are various locations.

Do you find that television is more stressful because of the time constraint?

There I just take it case by case. I think The Office was one of the most stress-free jobs I’ve ever had in my life. You show up laughing and leave laughing, but something like In Treatment was totally stressful, in a good way too, it’s a challenge. They’re all different, that’s kind of the beauty of it. I always find too if it’s really well written, a lot of the stress is taken away, you can really lean on the story and the dialogue you’ve been given.

What is next for you? Are you done filming The Office?

I’m doneThe Officefor good now and I don’t know what I’m going to do next. My schedule is wide open, so I’m just going to sit back and see what my options are.  But it is definitely a great time now, I’m back home in New York and get to spend time with my family.

You’re next off to SXSW now? What are you up to down there?

We’re promotingWin Winthere. We’re out there having a screening for the festival and then we have our New York premiere next week and then the film opens on March 18.

Arnold Schwarzenegger at his finest!  The movie follows a group of commandos as they rescue airmen from the Central American jungle. While there, they encounter a nearly invisible alien who is on a killing spree, taking trophies from its victims.  Another alien film full of suspense, you must watch your every turn in the juble with this creature on the loose.

5. District 9 (2009)

District 9 Poster

The film follows the story of the famous district 9, a favorite for government conspiracy theorists.  After aliens arrive on earth and are stranded, they are forced to live in squalor on a government run camp called District 9.  In 2010, the government hires an agency to forcibly get rid of the aliens.  It's a bit different than your scary alien invasion movie, possibly has more of a storyline, but we thought it should be on this list.

4. War of the Worlds (2005)
War of the Worlds PosterThe big screen adaptation of the H.G Wells novel read on the radio, scaring millions of people around the world, features all the suspense and excitement of the novel.  Tom Cruise stars as Ray Ferrier, who has his children for the weekend after his estranged wife drops them off.  Earth is invaded by aliens and he must get out of the city and get to Boston before they completely take over.

3. Cloverfield (2009)

Cloverfield Poster

Cloverfield was a gripping film about a monster on a rampage through New York City.  The film is shot entirely from the first person perspective and the jerky camera movements go along to make that effect more gripping.  The style actually makes the movie more terrifying as the six teens must escape the city before it's too late.  The film got mixed reviews, most chastising it for throwing in cheap tricks to get a few screams.

2. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

Invasion of the Body Snatchers Poster

A weird group of spore-like creatures arrive on earth and start creating near perfect duplicates of humans that grow out of some weird pods when asleep.  The best part of this film is the shocking ending that comes as a complete surprise.  Critics were mixed on this one, but generally agree that was pretty terrifying.

1. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

Close Encounters of the Third Kind Poster

This 1977 sci-fi film from director Steven Spielberg follows a group of ordinary people as they encounter aliens.  Once they encounter the aliens, they become obsessed with a strange mountain in Wyoming.  They all end up at this mountain where the government has built an area for encounters with UFO's.  The film is amazing to watch and has some unbelievable effects that are worth seeing in and of itself.

Hunger Games Casting Controversy: Underfed Actress Wanted?

In a widely circulated casting call for the lead female role in Lionsgate's film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novelThe Hunger Games, the studio is calling for"girls who are Caucasian and look 'underfed but strong'"

Seriously?

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, the criteriafor one of the most sought after roles in Hollywood is as follows: The candidate must be between the ages of 15-20, be Caucasian, appear"underfed but strong,"and be"naturally pretty underneath her tomboyishness."

The Hunger Games Book Cover

Okay fine - we understand wanting to get a role as close to the description in the novel as possible, only problem is... the book doesn't givethatdetailed or type of description of the young woman.

Debate over the ethnicity of Katniss has been raging for a while now - Collins' describes Katniss as having dark hair, olive skin, and gray eyes, so some reader assumed her to be aisan, latin or of mixed decent.

Collins never describes Katniss as"underfed."

Early talks have Jennifer Lawrence of Hailee Steinfeld as potentially landing the role.

The film is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.

Who do you see in the lead role for the highly anticipated film?
