In a widely circulated casting call for the lead female role in Lionsgate's film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novelThe Hunger Games, the studio is calling for"girls who are Caucasian and look 'underfed but strong'"
Seriously?
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, the criteriafor one of the most sought after roles in Hollywood is as follows: The candidate must be between the ages of 15-20, be Caucasian, appear"underfed but strong,"and be"naturally pretty underneath her tomboyishness."
Okay fine - we understand wanting to get a role as close to the description in the novel as possible, only problem is... the book doesn't givethatdetailed or type of description of the young woman.
Debate over the ethnicity of Katniss has been raging for a while now - Collins' describes Katniss as having dark hair, olive skin, and gray eyes, so some reader assumed her to be aisan, latin or of mixed decent.
Collins never describes Katniss as"underfed."
Early talks have Jennifer Lawrence of Hailee Steinfeld as potentially landing the role.
The film is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.
Who do you see in the lead role for the highly anticipated film?
