Liam Neeson To Take Part In Two Star Wars: The Clone Wars Episodes

Liam Neeson will voice Qui-Gon Jin on two episodes ofStar Wars: The Clone Wars,in which the character is set to appear.

Qui-Gon Jin appeared in the prequels to the original movie series and played a pivotal role in shaping the film.  He will appear in glowing blue force ghost form.

Neeson told Entertainment Weekly,“these characters resonate…even after all these years…. Growing up, my heroes were cowboys; they were strong and mysterious, and it seemed like they always rode off into the sunset. For kids today, Star Wars has that same kind of magic. I really wanted to be a part of that.”

The actor will appear in two episodes ofStar Wars: The Clone Warsthat will air on January 28 and February 11.

Sony Acquires Documentary The Greatest Movie Ever Made Before Sundance Premiere

The documentaryThe Greatest Movie Ever Madeis set to premiere Saturday at the Sundance Film Festival where films are looking for distributors.  It appears SonyPictures Worldwide Acquisitions now has the U.S. and Canadian rights to the film. 

Morgan Spurlock's documentary looks at product placement, branding, and advertising in the entertainment industry.  Sony had been aggressively looking to promote the film even before the festival began and now it's a done deal.

Expect sold out shows on Saturday now that the film has a distributor.

The film is expected to be released by Sony in April.

Sasha Baron Cohen Comedy Gets Release Date

Paramount Pictures has set a release date for the new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy,The Dictator, directed by Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno).  The film will be released May 11, 2012.

With the duo back together you can probably expect the same crude comedy from the previous two movies.

According to Paramount,The Dictatortells the story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure no democracy would ever come to his country he loved to control.

Baron Cohen will be one of the producers of the film as well.

Sundance Update: Second Day of Premieres

Lots of film stars crammed into a very small Park City, Utah for the second day of the Sundance Film Festival.  Today the stars come out to premiere their films in the first full day of screenings.

To start off the feature film portion of the festival isMargin Callstarring Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, and Demi Moore. The drama is set in the early days of the financial crisis in 2008. 

Another film premiering today isThe Music Never Stopsstarring Lou Taylor Pucci and J.K Simmons. The film is based on a man with a brain tumor who cannot distinguish the past from the present.

Fight for Your Right Revisited, a short film premiered last night to kick off the festival.  Elijah Wood, who starred in the film, appeared to make a few commnets about the film.

Sundance News: IFC Films Buy Rights To Perfect Sense

IFC Films has bought the distribution rights to the dramaPerfect Sense, starring Ewan McGregor and Eva Green.  The romantic-thriller follows the life of a couple in the middle of a global pandemic.  It explores how that pandemic affect people's emotions and actions.

"Perfect Senseis a beautiful and sexy love story brought to life by the wonderfully appealing performances of Ewan MacGregor and Eva Green,"said Sundance Selects/IFC president Jonathan Sehring."We look forward to working with them and David Mackenzie to bring this haunting apocalyptic story of the world gone wrong to American audiences."

The film, directed by David MacKenzie, also stars Connie Nielsen, Ewen Bremner, Stephen Dillane, and Denis Lawson.

IFC also picked up therights toThe Ledgeearlier this week.

Johnny Depp Talks Lone Ranger Remake

Johnny Depp is still set to star inThe Lone Rangerreboot by Disney. 

“I think it’s going to be good, when we have a chance to put it up on its feet,” Depp said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.“What we’ve got so far screenplay-wise is really great, really funny.”

Depp will play the role of Tonto in the remake.  Depp has a very interesting take on his role, which was always considered a secondary role in the original series.

“I always felt Native Americans were badly portrayed in Hollywood films over the decades,” he says.“It’s a real opportunity for me to give a salute to them. Tonto was a sidekick in all theLone Rangerseries. {This film} is a very different approach to that partnership. And a funny one I think.”

The remake will be produced byPirates of the Caribbeanproducer Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by the firstPiratesdirector Gore Verbinski.

Sundance Film Festival: Movies Creating Buzz

Sundance Film Festival kicked off today in Park City, Utah.  Most of the films premiering at the festival are from first-time directors or independent film makers.  It's also a place for many of next year's Oscar worthy films premiere.  So keep your eyes out for some of the buzz-worth films and remember them this time next year.

Here are some of the films that are getting the biggest buzz this year. 

My Idiot Brother- The comedy stars Paul Rudd as an organic gardener who was sent to jail for selling weed to a cop.  Upon release, he is forced to live with each of his three sisters - played by Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, and Zooey Deschanel. It's defiintely creating buzz and both Elizabeth Banks and Paul Rudd are at Sundance to promote it.

Cedar Rapids- This comedy, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (obviously) centers on a man (Ed Helms) who finds himself in the city for an insurance convention, where he meets some interesting characters.  Anne Heche, Sigourney Weaver, and John C. Reilly also star.

The Details- Another comedy, this one a little bit darker, co-starring Elizabeth Banks (again), Tobey Maguire, Laura Linney, and Ray Liotta.  This comedy centers on a group of hungry raccoons that discover worms living in a couple's backyard.  The result of this raccoon problem is a little strange; domestic tension, infidelity, organ donation, and murder.   Sounds very intriguing and something worth checking out simply for an explanation.

Red State- Directed by Kevin Smith, Red State has already received a lot of press.  It is a horror-thriller about religious fanaticism, and you know anything on that topic will be intriguing.

Margin Call- A drama set during the 2008 financial crisis.  The film stars Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Jeremy Irons, Paul Bettany, and Stanley Tucci.  Quire the emsemble cast and one that will prove both interesting and completely relevant.

The Son of No One -Al Pacino stars in this drama about two men who commit murder as young boys.  But that secret threatens to destroy his life when he returns to his hometown.  The film also stars Juliet Binoche and Tatum Channing.

These are just a few of the many films creating buzz in Utah - more than 100 films will premiere at the 10 day festival.

Kiefer Sutherland Hopeful 24 Movie Will Happen

Last we heard about any24movie was that Fox rejected the script and it was put on gold indefinitely.

Now it seems Kiefer Sutherland is still hopeful the movie will happen.  Sutherland says the script is actively being worked on.  He hopes they can begin shooting early next year.

24fans, there's still hope!

In an interview with Extra Sutherland explains,"It’s a very difficult thing to take something that you’ve done for eight years, almost 200 episodes, and try and find a story that’s going to be unique and yet service the history of the show as well. That is to be expected. So we start shooting hopefully by next December or January."

So it's not a definite approval, but its some positive news!

Reboots: Lethal Weapon and Tarzan?

Warner Bros. has a few reboots in the works.  According to The Hollywood Reporter'sHeat Vision, at the top of that list is a reboot of the action franchiseLethal Weapon.  Those films shot both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover to fame in the '80s. 

We hope the reboot will bring in some new actors; we're not interested in seeing the return of Gibson and Glover.

Another popular story Warner Bros. is looking to remake isTarzan.  The Disney version of the man raised by apes proves popular enough and it's been a long time since we've seen a live version of the story played out on screen.

SinceTrue Gritwas such a huge success, the studio is also looking to do another western. It is looking at remaking the 1969 WesternThe Wild Bunchfor modern audiences.

The studio is also apparently considering rebooting the 1973 sci-fi thrillerWestworld.  They've been talking about it for a long time, but it still seems like it might happen.

A View From The Bridge Cast Announced

Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) and Mia Waslkowska (Alice in Wonderland) are set to star in the filmA View From the Bridgebased on the 1955 Arthur Miller play. 

The actresses will be accompanied by Anthony LaPaglia, Sam Neill, and Sabastien Stan.

LaPaglia will play Italian dockworker Eddie, who along with his wife Becky (Farmiga) are raising their orphaned niece Catherine (Waslkowska). 

Robert Connolly will direct this new version of the film, which was also remade in 1961.

As Reel Movie News previously reported,Toy Story 3 won the award for best movie of the year, based on both critic reviews and box office revenue. Now we have the complete list of top grossing movies of the year. Toy Story 3officially get the top stop and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse comes in with a close second.

However, Depp's role inAlice in Wonderlandwas quirky and brilliant.  He did a great job as the mad hatter - really channeling the"mad."  Paul Giamatti was very good inBarney's Version, but I don't think it quite beats out Depp's charisma in his role.

This category has five great performances, so it's going to be a tight race.  James Franco was brilliant in 127 Hour, which he was pretty much the only starring role.  Jesse Eisenberg is getting a lot of critical praise for his role inThe Social Network,but it's Colin Firth who takes the cake. Firth is amazing as King George VI trying to overcome a stammer and he is getting the recognition he deserves already for playing that role.  It doesn't seem to be stopping at the Golden Globe Awards.

Warner Bros. just released the new poster forRed Riding HoodviaiTunes.  Red Riding Hood stars Amanda Seyfried as Valerie, a young woman torn between two men.  When the usually complacent werewolf goes on the attack, Valerie learns she has a unusual connection with the feared beast.

New Pippi Longstocking Film in the Works!

Debra Granik, director ofWinter's Bone, starring Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Lawrence will be sitting in the directors chair again.  This time she is set to take on the red-haired Pippi Longstocking in her adaptation of the beloved storybook classic.

In an interview with The LA Times, Granik says she is very interested in bringing strong, young women to the big screen.

“People are finding these heroines charismatic, unexpected and fresh.  What a person in the business can get from that is,‘Hey, a young female protagonist doesn’t need to have a boyfriend, get pregnant, cut herself or be naked to attract an audience.’”

The movie will tell the tale of the rebellious 9-year-old who mocks and fools adults who treat her badly.  She is considered an assertive and strong figures.

Quentin Tarantino to Receive Special Honor at Critics Choice Awards

Quentin Tarantino will receive a first of its kind honor at the Critics Choice Awards on Friday. 

The award, called the Critics' Choice Music+Film Award, was created to"honor a single filmmaker who has not only inspired moviegoers with his cinematic storytelling, but has heightened the impact of film through the brillant use of source and soundtrack music."

Tarantino will be awarded for his work with films likePulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill: Vol 1& 2,andInglourious Basterds.

Maroon 5 will perform a special tribute with music from some of Tarantino's most memorable films, which will air on VH1 Friday January 14, 2011.

Eminem Set to Commit Random Acts of Violence in New Film

Eminem is all set to return to the big screen. With the success of his last album and 10 Grammy nominations this year, it seems Slim Shady has reached the top again. 

According to Vulture, 20th Century Fox'sRandom Acts of Violenceis said to be a cross betweenThe TownandThe Departed. 

The crime thriller will focus on an ex-con trying to stay on the right side of the law, but torn when his old gang wants him back.

The film was originally supposed to be a on-screen version of the video game Grand Theft Auto, but the game's production company wouldn't sell the rights to Fox. But after four years of development, we now have a revamped version of the script and it sounds pretty thrilling actually.

This will be Eminem's first feature film role since 2002's8 Mileinspired by his own life.

Star Wars: The Complete Set is Coming to Blu-Ray!

The wait is finally over! Coming in September you will be able to ALL the Star Wars films in one set coming out on blu-ray. That didn't take long! Lucas got the films ready for the high-definition debut in only three years. 

But, if you want to see Star Wars in high-definition, it's gonna cost you. The whole series, including the original three films and the three prequels, will cost you $139.99...

... Although, Lucasfilm could probably charge much more and still have people waiting in line!

New Clip from The Green Hornet - Kato's Vision

The Green Hornetis set to premiere in a couple weeks and Sony Pictures just released a new clip of the film. It's a fight scene featuring Kato, played by Jay Chou, and it shows how he uses his visions to help get himself out of a tough situation. 

Just look at how he whips some ass when outnumbered 3 to 1. Impressive. 

The film, which also stars Seth Rogan, Cameron Diaz, and Tom Wilkinson, is based on the classic TV series.

The Green Hornet - Kato's Vision

The way the whole scene plays out is a testament to director Michel Gondry and some great sequencing action!

The Green Hornetwill hit theaters on January 14, 2011.

Producers Guild Nominations Announced; The Social Network, Inception Among those Nominated

Nominations have been announced for the 2011 Producer Guild Awards! Producer/Director Judd Apatow will host the ceremony on January 22nd. In the past, these awards have been a pretty good indicator for which films will be nominated for the Academy Awards and the coveted Best Picture Oscar.

This year's movie picks include,The Social Network,Black Swan, and127 Hours. Television is also recognized at the awards with,Glee,Mad Men, andTrue Bloodall nominated.

The ceremony will also feature awards for some of the best in film and television producing. 

James Cameron will receive the Milestone award; Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will receive the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television; and RealD company will get the Vanguard award for achievements in 3D technology.

Toy Story 3 Tops 2010 Best Movies

Fifteen years after the original Toy Story made its way onto the big screen,Toy Story 3is bringing in the gold for the beloved franchise. Not only was Toy Story 3 the highest grossing movie of 2010, meaning audiences loved it; it was also the highest rated film of 2010, meaning critics loved it too. Put the two together and you've got one heck of a success story for Pixar. It even topped Quentin Tarantino's list!

Toy Story 3 tops the yearly box office numbers with $1.06 billion dollars in total tickets sales, surpassing others like Tim Burton'sAlice in Wonderland($1.02 billion), andHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 ($831 million), although the latter has only been in theaters for 6 weeks.

In addition to earning the number 1 spot at box office with the highest number of ticket sales, it also topped the critics list of best movies of the year. According to review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, Toy Story 3 earned a nearly perfect 99% rating. 

So it's the most successful film according to critics and movie-goers, but could it receive the ultimate award season honor and beat out the nine other films vying for Oscar gold?

The film is a drama centered around the romance between a rising country-music songwriter (Hedlund) and a fallen star (Paltrow) and the complications that arise with her husband/manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-singer (Meester).
